Sophie Shi, MSN, FNP-C
Sophie Shi, MSN, FNP-C, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming environment where patients feel comfortable speaking openly about their health. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Purdue University, with additional studies in psychology and human development. Sophie believes primary care should be accessible, personal, and grounded in trust, not rushed or difficult to navigate.
She currently serves as a Lead Nurse Practitioner in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medicine, where she manages her own patient panel, provides urgent care coverage, and mentors future clinicians. Her clinical background spans primary care, cardiovascular health, critical care, and care for vulnerable populations, giving her a comprehensive perspective on both complex medical needs and everyday health concerns.
Sophie founded Safe Space Primary Care to remove common barriers to care by offering flexible scheduling and personalized care that fit into patients’ lives. She has a special interest in cardiovascular disease prevention, weight management, and the treatment of mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Above all, she strives to build lasting relationships so patients feel genuinely seen, understood, and empowered to take meaningful steps toward better health.

CARE PHILOSOPHY
Why Did I Start Safe Space?
I started Safe Space Primary Care because I believe healthcare should feel safe before it feels clinical. Too many people delay care because they feel rushed, dismissed, or unsure if their concerns are “important enough.” I wanted to build something different, a place where you can ask any question, talk openly about your health, and know you’ll be met with respect, not judgment.
My vision was shaped by both my clinical experience and my own frustration navigating the healthcare system. I’ve seen how long wait times, rigid schedules, and impersonal visits create barriers to care. I also know how powerful it is when someone truly listens. Safe Space was created to remove those barriers, offering accessible scheduling, telehealth, and even care in community spaces, so healthcare can fit into real life, not disrupt it.
At its core, Safe Space is about trust. It’s about building long-term relationships, having honest conversations about prevention and chronic health, and creating realistic, sustainable steps toward feeling better. My goal is simple: to make primary care feel human again, and to make sure you always feel heard first.
